Francesca is a pediatrician who is obsessed with maternity and children. She's married to Pedro, a doctor. Francesca's obsession with children stems from something that happened to her a few years back. Her second child died of cot death, an unexplained and sudden death that affects a very small percentage of babies. Since then, Francesca has never been the same. Following the advice of friend and psychiatrist Jean, the couple move to a new home in hopes of distancing themselves from the memories of the horrible event. But Fracesca's obsession with cot death torments her. Regardless of Pedro's and Jean's attempts to help her, she seems to be dangerously close to madness. And to make matters worse, she's starting to see and hear things. Furtive figures and ghostly shadows start tormenting her. The building in which she and her family live, as the only inhabitants, seems to hide terrible secrets. Both the cellar and the attic are locked and barred to the family and it's precisely from both these places that Francesca receives nocturnal visits that are slowly driving her mad. Unable to help her herself, Francesca allows a well known Jesuit to intervene. Using recordings, he discovers that the house is inhabited by invisible beings, by people who have been dead for a long time. Francesca is especially sensitive to these manifestations. She can basically talk to the dead. The building that they are living in was once an orphanage, more than a hundred years ago, and no one has lived in it since. It is a haunted place. The investigation that those close to Francesca carry out leads them to a mysterious film that has remained hidden for 50 years.
